Zeppelins

The Zeppelin was created by Germany's Count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin. He came up with this idea after the Franco-Prussian War where he saw the French deliver mail by using balloons. The first flight of the Zeppelin was July 2, 1900. The flight lasted 18 minutes before the air craft had to be grounded for a broken mechanism. The first truly successfull Zeppelin was the third one created. It made 45 flights without one hitch. This made the German Army want to buy Zeppelins for use but were unsure of its flight time. The fourth Zeppelin was to fly 24 straight hours, however, a storm broke out. The Zeppelin was going to be nixed from the war until it gained a lot of support from the civilians.
During WWI the Zeppelins were used as scouts and bombers. The Zeppelins were used during raids and patrols. They were also used for supplies. The Zeppelin was used by the Army and the Navy both. The only drawbacks to the Zeppelin were that it was very flammable and that it was really big. Also the Zeppeling was very weak against gun fire. The good things about the Zeppelin was that, because it was bigger, it could carry more guns and bombs. Also it was nearly as fast as all the other air crafts that Germany had.
